Driving to work was fun this morning. No sarcasm.

What engine you have there? I really like Mk7s...

Which Pire llis? Did you go wider than the standard GTI tire of 225?

Doing a good job of getting the GTI look with those wheels.

It’s a Wolfsburg with a 1.8l R4 TFSI, which is a lot more fun to drive than I thought it would be.

I added a set of struts to the hatch so I could use the key fob to open it, needle sweep at startup, a blank for the rear wiper (never need it here), and roll down/open all/roll up/open all windows and sunroof via the key fob.

Enabled the items above, and disabled the horn honking when locking/unlocking the car with a Carista and the app.

Mmmm Pirellis! I have P-Zero All Season Plus tires on my GTI. I had them put on last year and I really like them. Much better than the factory Continentals.

Don’t remember off the top of my head, I asked for the same tires that were on the wheels, but they are 225/40 R18s, so no wider.

I do understand the spacer thing now though.  I don’t think I’ll use them, but I understand it.

I bought the special hatch-pop struts when I bought my GTI, and had the car reprogrammed to pop the hatch when the fob button is pressed, not just unlock it. Then I found that for the struts to be strong enough to push out the hatch, it meant that it was more difficult to close, and I was getting my hand very dirty as a result grabbing the outside instead of just the inside . So I switched back to the stock struts.

Now, almost four years later, the stock struts are a bit weaker, and I have to pull more to open the hatch, and I may switch back to the other struts!

I disabled the horn honking through the infotainment console somewhere. Maybe different on the GTI.

Haha, that’s some point of view. I’ve lived in Brazil untill 2017 when I moved to UK, so my power “requirements” are way under the US standards.

I’d be satisfied with the 1.0 TSI, happy with the 1.4/1,5 TSI and more than thrilled with anything bigger. BTW the 1.8 is not offered in this side of the pond... Only in the Polo GTI and (maybe) some Skodas/Seats.

Looks like you really enjoy the car, which is pleasant to see!

Cheers

I have to admit my initial reason for buying the Austins was that I liked the way they look, but while doing some research, I came across this video and 18 inch wheels seem to be the best option for multiple reasons. I really enjoy the channel as a whole as well.
